VIDEO: James G. Lewis’s Presentation to the Not Without a Fight! Coalition’s September Conference

Editor’s note: Here is the third posting of a video from the NWAF! Coalition’s September Conference in Wallace. Dr. James G. Lewis, historian at the Forest History Society, offered a talk titled, “‘The Greatest Good for the Greatest Number’: Re-examining the Forest Service’s social contract with communities.” The video runs one hour. It explores — in rather more detail than could our documentary film, “Counties in Crisis” — the bargain struck between Gifford Pinchot’s Forest Service and counties where national forests were located in the Forest Service’s formative years. Enjoy!
