Andy Benz has written a sweeping and critical account of the negative economic consequences of federal land management practices for rural Oregon communities (read at source).  Benz is the former sheriff of Malheur County, Oregon, the site of the recent protest and siege.  His no-holds-barred op-ed was published in the EAST OREGONIAN on Jan. 30th.
